The Mhluzi Society

Offices and leadership: The office of the RWM Church is in Middelburg under the leadership of the Superintendent minister Rev FRE Shaw B.A.(Hons)B.Th.,DD. The Mhluzi congregation started with five local preachers from the Methodist Church of South Africa. This was in May 1997. Four candidates entered as Pastors on probation. Two of the Pastors were ordained Reverends on 15 October 2000. The third Pastor deserted whilst the other remained as a Pastor (with special dispensation). The Mhluzi society thus consists of two ministers, one pastor and seven preachers. One of the preachers, Mr Simon Lumbo, is situated in Vaalbank.

Venue: Services were first held in 1997, on Sundays from 09:00 to 10:00 at the Apostolic Faith Church. However, because of re-roofing and other renovations to the Church building, we were forced to move. From the middle of June 1999, the Church used a private house of an elderly lady, but shortly after, in October, it moved to one of the Manyano School classrooms where it has remained to this day.

Statistics: The Church started in May 1997 with a membership of seven adults and closed the year with a membership of twelve adults. The membership gradually increased despite members who ceased to meet. By the end of 1998 there were 30 members which increased to 102 during the year 2000. Sadly, this figure has declined to the present number of 50.

Divine Services: Divine Worship is held every Sunday from 9:00 to 10:30 in Mhluzi. Easter activities are held at available venues in the full Methodist tradition. Christmas services, which have been well attended, are held annually. Revival services were held at Nazareth, Vaalbank and Eikeboom. More are scheduled to follow. Divine services are also held at Ext 24 and Vaalbank on Sundays at 11:30. The Youth was at its peak in 2000 with 30 active members. They even, among other things, went camping at Samekoms. A Children's Church was also then established. A Church Choir was formed, but sadly it has ceased to members. They even, among other things, went camping at Samekoms. A Children's Church was also then established. A Church Choir was formed, but sadly it has ceased to exist and the Youth is struggling to make its mark. However, the Women's Auxiliary and Young Men's League are well on track.

Expansion: With God on our side, we look forward to more societies emerging. One began at Vaalbank in the wake of 2001. Ext 24 and Eikeboom also joined us as time progressed. Services are held there on all Sundays from 11:00 to 12:30.

Finances: Though the Church is not a profit-making organisation, financial needs are still met.

They tell of how it has impacted upon their lives. May God continue to use this ministry.
